For The Diversity Trust, Mara is a Non-Executive Director.
Mara has spent the past 20+ years helping people in the US and Europe access safe abortions. She was a founding member of Abortion Without Borders and the founder of Abortion Support Network (ASN) which she subsequently ran for 13 years. ASN is a charity providing practical information, financial assistance and accommodation for women and pregnant people travelling from Ireland, N Ireland, Isle of Man, Malta, Gibraltar and Poland to access safe abortions.
In 2023 she co-founded another charity, Supporting Abortions For Everyone, or SAFE. SAFE works with pro-abortion activists, networks and providers across Europe to support access to abortions for everyone who needs or wants one.
Having spent the better part of two decades helping people get abortions regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, immigration status, spoken language, country of origin, marital status or political beliefs, has given Mara a belief in the importance of a level playing field. She understands that when rights don’t apply to everyone, they are not rights but privileges that can be taken away from any of us.
Mara has worked with small and large charities and NGOs and with companies ranging from tech start-ups to global companies. Her skills include public relations, message crafting, stakeholder engagement, volunteer management, movement building, grassroots activism, fundraising (regular giving, individual giving and trusts and foundations) and more.
