We work with Stand Against Racism & Inequality SARI who deliver the hate crime victim service across Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset and South Gloucestershire. In Bristol SARI work with organisations including: Avon & Bristol Law CentreBrandon TrustBristol Mind, LGBT Bristol and Resolve West to deliver Bristol Hate Crime and Discrimination Services.

A Hate Crime is:
A crime motivated by prejudice against a person because of their:
• Ethnicity or race
• Disability, including mental health
• Sexual orientation
• Gender identity
• Religion or belief
• Age, gender, marital or pregnancy status

A Hate Crime can be:
• A physical attack, like hitting
• Name calling or bad gestures
• Threats, harassment or intimidation
• Damage to property
• Nasty letters, emails, texts, phone calls, social media messages etc.

When a hate crime is reported to the main office at SARI, a case worker from one of the organisations will be allocated to the case. If you have been a victim of, or have witnessed a hate crime, please report it and help make your community safer.

Discrimination

Discrimination, harassment and victimisation are illegal under the Equality Act 2010. The characteristics protected under the Equality Act include: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. If you feel you have been the victim of discrimination please contact the Avon & Bristol Law Centre.

Hate Crime Community Empowerment & Awareness Training
There are free community empowerment and professional training sessions available across Bath & North East Somerset, Somerset and North Somerset. The community empowerment and professional training sessions are made possible by support from the National Lottery Community Fund. the community empowerment sessions are available free to groups and organisations working in the area.
