A social Issues campaigner, motivational/public speaker, policymaker, and equality, diversity, and inclusion professional. Russell is the CEO and Founder of Diverse and Inclusive Representation CIC, a company that represents Black and Asian Talent.
Previously, the D&I Lead at Burges Salmon LLP, the Director of People, Culture, and Strategy at Diversity Trust and External Trustee for Bath Spa University Students’ Union.
Russell is currently on the National Trust’s Regional Advisory Board, and was previously the Head of Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity, and Wellbeing at the University of Exeter where he developed the Equality and Diversity framework, strategy, and vision. Prior to this, he was in a similar EDI strategic leadership role at UWE Bristol.
Russell is an expert in inclusivity, sustainability, and well-being, leading on equality, diversity, and inclusion for 30 years. He is a sociologist and cultural linguist, and has received diplomas and awards related to community engagement.
Russell has extensive knowledge and experience as a result of working within a variety of sectors, including Local Authorities, Higher Education, sports and recreation industry, Health, as well as Legal, Private, Social Enterprise and Voluntary Sectors.
His specialisms include EDI, health and wellbeing and safeguarding, disability, religion and belief, race, inclusive leadership, cultural change and competency, and unconscious bias.
He published an ‘Equality and Diversity Toolkit’ in order to improve practice. This toolkit included good practice guidance, multi-media resources, and an ‘Equalities Standards’ for Substance Misuse/Treatment Services.
