Join us for an evening of LGBT History with a unique collection of speakers from schools, authors, poets and historians including:
Sue Kelham is Acting Principle at Wallscourt Farm Academy. Sue has been teaching for 28 years, mainly in Bristol primary schools, more recently in South Gloucestershire. Sue is a Specialist leader of Education for Early Years. Her experience of being out in schools has not always been easy, sometimes extremely challenging, but it has always been important to her to model a positive self-image for children and young people.
Dr Edson Burton is a historian, writer and activist. Edson is co-author of the 2008 report ‘Under One Sky’ a study of Bristol’s Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) LGBTQ community. Since then he has championed awareness of the LGBTQ community through his creative and programming work. He is also a founder of Kiki – a club night for BME LGBTQ people and their friends.
Cheryl Morgan is Co-Chair of OutStories and a regular speaker on LGBT history issues. Her talk, “If Your Past Isn’t Queer It Is Not Realistic” looks at how actual history is far more diverse than most historical fiction would have you believe.
Anna Bianchi is a writer, trainer and group facilitator. As a social worker she specialised for many years in working with adolescents in crisis, and still partners with young people from the care system to co-deliver training. Anna is the author of the recent book, Becoming an Ally to the Gender-Expansive Child.
Alphabets Youth Project, based in Yate, is a project for LGBTQ+ young people aged 13-19. Members of the project will share their stories, and we will screen the video the group has made on coming out as LGBTQ+ at school.
We hope you can join us to celebrate LGBT History Month 2018.
